Gold Recycling
The circle of life – Recycling
In the day and age of the circular economy, we have become attuned to the process of recycling. It is inherent in almost every aspect of our lives from plastics to aluminium, paper, cardboard and the list goes on. The general ‘circle of life’. Little do we realise the broken gold sitting in our drawer can have the same process applied. In fact, the most important piece of advice we give to all our clients is reuse and recycle because not only is it good for the environment and less cost, gold has a commodity value and should never be discounted as useless.
What is the difference between raw gold and used gold?
Gold extracted from the earth is pure to an extent as impurities exist in nuggets so you might end up with 22 or 23ct (gold in its purest form is 24ct). As manufacturing jewellers, we purify our gold and add the necessary components to achieve the level of purity we desire. In our case, 18ct (75% gold purity). The similarity? Your broken jewellery has been pre-mixed with these exact components! The process has already been done for you!
The Process
Once we receive your unwanted jewellery, we proceed to test each individual piece ensuring they are worthy to be used; while simultaneously, stones are carefully extracted and the best ones cleaned and polished. We refine your gold spending the next several weeks carefully crafting your dream. The result is what you could have achieved when buying it brand new from a high-end jewellery store.

The Mission
Living in a highly consuming society, we are far too often drawn to buying new ‘things’. It has become a reflex in first world countries where it is much easier to buy something new off the shelf. We don’t realise that everyday components in our surroundings can be reused, especially commodities in the present economy. Companies are paying top dollar to take them off the public, extract the alloys and resell them in a different form at a profit. What we can achieve just by comprehending is mind blowing so next time you find that broken chain, missing earring or outdated jewel; think carefully, am I or is anyone in my family going to want a new piece of jewellery? If the answer is yes, reuse and recycle. It is our type of ‘renewable energy’ and our 5 cents into recycling and maintaining a sustainable environment.
